Robert Reiff is a photographer, videographer, producer, director based in Marina del Rey. He also owns MagicLight Productions, Inc. a full service rental studio and production company. Robert Reiff grew up in NYC and graduated from Pace University in1973, with a BBA majoring in marketing and accounting. While in college Robert worked for one of the “Big 8” accounting firms, Haskins & Sells. Working for the accounting firm made Robert realize he did not want to work as an accountant and pursued his passion of photography. In 1973 Robert opened his first photo studio in the East Village of NYC. Robert quickly started shooting for high fashion clothing designers and catalogues. Where most artists have trouble is in the business aspect of their art. This is where Robert’s business background came in handy, having the ability and comfort level to work with both sides of the brain. In 1979 after shooting fashion in NY for 6 years and having two studios in the photo district, Robert relocated to Los Angeles. He segued into shooting architecture, aerials, real estate and landscapes. In 1986 Robert began shooting for Muscle & Fitness Magazine, Flex, M&F/Hers and Mens Fitness and became their main photographer at Muscle & Fitness until 2004. Working closely with Joe Weider and his art departments shooting countless covers and layouts he learned a lot about physique photography and the Fitness industry. Robert also began to shoot healthy food and found he excelled in that area and loved doing it as well. In 1995 Robert formed MagicLight Productions, Inc. (www.magiclight.com). Specializing in all aspects of production from conception, photography, video, art direction and much more, including a fully equipped studio rental facility based in Marina del Rey, California. Robert’s fitness industry niche combined with his marketing background led him to co-found the brand Oxygenfit, workout equipment for home and travel fitness. In 2004 Robert had the opportunity to start shooting and producing content for Robert Kennedy’s Magazines; Oxygen, Muscle Mag. Maximum Fitness, Reps and American Curves Curves. “I constantly have to reinvent myself to keep up with or more importantly create trends. In this business they say, you’re only as good as your last shoot”. In 2008 Robert started shooting as the lead photographer for the AIM (Active Interest Media) Fitness division. Shooting a majority of covers and features for magazines such as; Oxygen, Muscle & Performance, MuscleMag, Black Belt, The Box and Mud & Obstacle Robert is currently the head of production for the FitPlan App (www.fitplanapp.com). Here he is producing, directing and lighting high level, 4 camera 4K video and photography content of their athletes worldwide. In addition Robert is involved with other business related aspects of the company, tying once again his business and creative sides together.
